This session will focus on the premise that in a trauma-sensitive school, all aspects of the educational environment from workforce training to engagement with students and families are grounded in an understanding of trauma and its impact and designed to promote resilience for all. Based on our recent TrueNorth Culture and Climate survey, we have heard from staff that they crave the tools to meet the unique needs of all students every day.
Outcomes:
Our session with James will include resources for educating all school staff about:
- Understanding the prevalence of trauma and its impact on children and youth, and implications for schools
- Understanding of the impact of Secondary Trauma Stress (STS) and Vicarious Trauma on educators
- Introduce the concept and practice of self-compassion as a tool for building resilience and healing trauma
