Grounded in research and interviews with over 400 educators, It’s Your Turn: Teachers as Facilitators, A Handbook (Garmston & McKanders, 2022) addresses the unique challenges faced by teachers who facilitate meetings, being a colleague and periodically leading colleagues in meetings. The authors responded to the challenges identified by teacher facilitators with practical strategies and tools organized by Five Mindsets:
See groups as they could be
Groups grant consent
Prepare…don’t attach
Diversity enriches
Never let a conflict go to waste
Outcomes:
Upon completion of this session, participants will have:
- Deepened their understanding about the approaches in the book.
- Reflected on how the approaches could be integrated into their own settings.
Who Should Attend: It’s Your Turn: Teachers as Facilitators, A Handbook (Garmston & McKanders, 2022) is a practical guide for teachers who facilitate workgroups or meetings (e.g., grade level meetings, data meetings, department meetings) or those who guide teachers to become better facilitators. In addition, those who attend meetings will also find value in the book, as the knowledge and actions of participants are as important as the facilitators. (Adapted from MiraVia.education)
