Virtual Courageous Conversation: The Experience™ provides organizations with a set of tools to talk about race, intentionally and effectively. The Protocol, as it is referred to, includes three components -- The Compass, Four Agreements, and Six Conditions™ -- designed specifically to help engage, sustain and deepen intra- and interracial dialogues. Together, these tools help to create a space that is authentic, safe, and generative for conversations that are insightful and compassionate. This customized, three-block, eight hour seminar guides an examination of the impact of race in our lives and fosters the development of an essential literacy and competence through which to experience our personal, professional, and organizational ways of being. Courageous Conversation: The Experience™ delivers a foundation for the pursuit of systemic change through a lens of racial equity.
Outcomes: Participants will:
- Engage in a thoughtful, compassionate exploration of race and racism and grapple with how they influence the cultures and climates of our workplaces and our communities.
- Practice strategies for identifying and addressing the policies, programs, and procedures that negatively impact people of color’s achievement and serve as barriers to ALL people’s fullest potential.
- Develop the knowledge and requisite skills for engaging, sustaining, and deepening Courageous Conversation about the impact of race and racism on our lives.
Satisfactory completion requirements:
- Attendance is based on your signature in and out of the session. Failure to provide a signature in and out will result in no credit. Virtual attendance is taken via the Zoom Chat.
- Participants are expected to attend both sessions to earn credit.
Participants know that they will be expected to have their cameras on during the session to maximize our level of connection and engagement. We understand that sometimes there are personal or technical reasons why people can't have their cameras on, and we ask that people let us know if that is the case.
- Participants must complete an electronic course evaluation within two weeks of the session date to be sent a certificate.
- Accommodations, questions and complaints can be directed to: professionallearning@truenorth804.org
Cost Information: Participation fees are waived for TrueNorth employees, TrueNorth member district employees, and parents of students in our TrueNorth member districts. For individual participants who do not meet the above criteria, this course participation fee is $150.00. Participation or material fees will be billed directly to the school district that employs the participant after the session is complete or the first session in a series is complete. Individuals are asked to not bring payment to the session.
Cancellation and Refund Information: There is no cancellation fee, though we ask for advance notice to open the spot for another person. TrueNorth reserves the right to cancel any session due to low enrollment. TrueNorth does not charge prior to the start of the offered session. If an individual attends the first day of a learning series but is unable to attend the remaining sessions, the school district that employs the participant is able to designate an alternate person. It is up to the individual no longer attending the program to give their replacement the information learned in the first session.
We will not be admitting participants after 20 minutes into the session.
